Here is a link to Freelance Rate Calculator (USED THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!!)
- I found this on the "Where Are The Black Designers" forum page.
- As you know I am not big on BIG groups, but you can find a lot of gold nuggets that people drop here and there.
- You have to make a copy of this and then plug in the numbers as applicable to you, and you can get hourly/rates, etc.

Jessica Hische Dark Art of Pricing (meat on the bone about pricing)
- Great article by the pattern designer Jessica Hische. It's an older article that apparently caused a massive "kerfuffle" when it was released. Because it is essentially saying know your worth - and it was written by a woman. If a man wrote I don't think anyone would care.
- I have used this article to finagle a little more money out of a recent commission with WeTransfer because of what they were asking for in the limited time I had to do it.
How Much Should You Charge For Design Work (FAST COMPANY article) VERY GOOD!
- Very handy. Basically talks about price per hour VS price per project.
- I used this in a recent negotiation to secure what I felt was a more appropriate price for the work I was going to commence.
- Usage rights. Licensing etc. Very good stuff.
Pricing Your Illustration Work (VERY GOOD)
- used this to see if what I was getting paid made sense
- for the most part, I was getting paid the standard fare for the size of each publication's purse
- breaks down a lot of different options for editorial illustration
Akiko Stehrenberger: Movie Poster Artist Work Flow (VERY GOOD...and pictures!)
- When I first started and was looking for the right language to talk money to Art Directors.
- I used this word for word to give a cost to a prospective client.
5 Art Pricing Lessons (GOOD)
- interesting read with real-life scenarios that I also encounter, but was able to have a successful outcome
- another one about pricing. breaks down the psychology of pricing and how to not psych yourself out of money - don't leave money on the table!!!
- I have used this as well. Stuff like don't defend your pricing - The price is the price, if you don't want to pay that's cool!

- I had to re-listen to this to see if it was still applicable. It still is.
OKAY STUFF
How Much Should You Charge For A CD Cover (OK)
- found this after I got an answer from a fellow collage artist whose work I love.
@victoriatoppingart (Victoria Topping) - her works are fucking rad and she was super helpful and continues to support my work. So I used her advice. (USING COMMUNITY!!)
- but this is also legit and makes sense.
Pricing Consistently for Art Sales (GOOD STUFF FOR FINE ART)
- really good for me and I was able to create consistent pricing for my art prints
- takes away the guesswork and gives you some options and offers room for growth as your popularity will increase
